I was blessed to get to know Melanie in the early ’90s when I volunteered with JFREJ from 1992 to 1994 and helped develop the anti-racism and anti-Semitism workshop and worked on the conferences. I was one of those young activists that Melanie mentored and to whom Melanie showed so much kindness and generosity. This was especially important to me as a cis-gendered, straight, white man to help me find my place in a queer, radical space. The Issue Is Power was key in refining my political analysis, particularly around whiteness and being a Jew in the United States. I am so sad that she is gone from this world and want to add my voice to those who loved her and were deeply influenced by this brilliant, fierce, compassionate fighter.
Much love,
