Melanie and I were in a women’s poetry workshop group in Portland, Oregon in the early 1970s. She always challenged assumptions in anyone’s poetry. I remember late evenings at Denny’s, too, with other radicals in the Portland area. She offered so much to so many — I know she will be missed.
