Melanie was my professor for a women’s studies class about Jewish women in the fall of 1995 at Hamilton College. I loved Melanie so much that I took another class with her in the spring. Those classes proved pivotal in the way I thought about myself, and later the way I viewed myself as a mother and as a school leader. Melanie was a remarkable professor. She was passionate, empowering, and open.
Over 20 years ago, my now husband and I started a collection of readings that we use every year for Rosh Hashanah. The collection includes a chapter from The Issue is Power. I look forward to honoring Melanie this Rosh Hashanah as we do every year.
