I remember Melanie from the lesbian-feminist community of Portland in the mid-1970s. Her intelligence shone with a fierce intensity and her book, We Speak In Code, was immensely important to me as a young Jewish lesbian. Tonight while doing some research, I came across an article she wrote in the 1980s and I wondered what she’d been up to all these years. I am saddened to hear of her death. May her memory be a blessing to us all.
